How I Found C24 Bank
I was with a traditional branch bank for a long time. Monthly fees, a poor app, transfers that took 2–3 days. Then I switched — first to DKB, then to C24 Bank. C24 is the one that stayed.
What C24 Bank Does Really Well
Free Without Conditions
The account costs nothing on the Smart plan. No minimum monthly deposit, no minimum balance, no conditions. That's not a given at German banks.
Real-Time Push Notifications
Every payment, every direct debit, every incoming transfer — an instant push notification. I know immediately when a payment has gone out or money has come in. No surprise bank statement at the end of the month.
Spaces (Sub-accounts)
I keep certain amounts in separate "Spaces" — one Space for insurance, one for annual expenses (holidays, taxes). The money sits in the main account but is mentally and visually separated. Budget planning becomes significantly easier.
Apple Pay / Google Pay
Works immediately without any workarounds. No separate activation, no waiting period.
What's Missing or Annoying
No IBAN personalisation — you get a random German IBAN.
Smart plan has limited international use — ATM withdrawals outside the EU incur fees. For frequent non-EU travel, upgrading to the Plus plan (€2.90/month) is worth it.
My Use Case
Primary current account for all ongoing expenses and standing orders. Salary comes in, all costs go out. The Spaces help me avoid accidentally spending money reserved for specific purposes.
Investment money gets transferred directly onwards — to the Scalable brokerage account.
Bottom Line
If you're still with a fee-charging branch bank: there's no rational reason to be anymore. C24 does the essentials for free, well, and without a catch.
