Obsidian

My note-taking and knowledge system

After 3 years of Notion, I switched to Obsidian. Local Markdown files, lightning-fast search, full control over my data. My knowledge belongs to me — not to a cloud provider.

The Beginning: Why Notion?

Notion was my digital home for a long time — project planning, notes, knowledge base, everything in one place. The flexibility was impressive: databases, Kanban boards, nested pages.

The Problem After 3 Years

But after three years, the problems grew:

  • Slow loading times: Every page took 2–3 seconds. With hundreds of pages, a real problem.
  • Vendor lock-in: My data was trapped in Notion's proprietary format.
  • No offline functionality: Without internet, no access to my knowledge.

The Switch to Obsidian

The switch changed everything:

  1. Local Markdown files — My data belongs to me
  2. Lightning-fast search — Everything is instant
  3. Full control — Plugins, themes, sync on my terms

My Top Plugins

  • Dataview: SQL-like queries over Markdown files
  • Templater: Automated templates for recurring notes
  • Obsidian Git: Automatic sync via Git

Conclusion

The migration process took a week. Was it worth it? Absolutely. My knowledge is now future-proof, fast, and genuinely mine.
